About Pretoria CC
The club opened in October 1910, only months after the Union of South Africa was formed, and its course has been reshaped by several architects since. Bob Grimsdell reworked the layout in 1950 and Fred Hawtree made changes in 1968, before the Gary Player Design group carried out a substantial redesign in 2005 that added extensive new bunkering and rebuilt the greens.
The par-72 course measures roughly 6,400 metres from the back tees and runs across gently undulating ground lined with mature trees. Water comes into play on several holes, and the heavily bunkered closing par-5 makes for a demanding finish. A flatter front nine gives way to a more scenic, rolling back nine, with subtly contoured greens that reward careful approach play.
Visitors find a walkable, traditional country-club setting, with caddies available and a non-metal-spike policy in place. The venue has hosted Sunshine Tour professional events and is consistently rated among South Africa's leading parkland courses.
