About Glenvista
The par-72 course lies in a valley at the foot of the Klipriviersberg ridge, where a small stream runs through the property and comes into play on 13 holes; all four par 3s are guarded by water. The stream drains through a poort, or gorge, in the surrounding ridge, and mature trees frame the fairways throughout. From the white tees it measures around 6,261 metres, extending to roughly 6,561 metres from the back.
The land was farmland acquired by the developers Glen Anil in the 1960s, and construction of the course took about five years. Sid Brews designed the layout, which was officially opened by Gary Player in October 1973.
Set in a scenic valley between the suburbs of Bassonia and Glenvista in southern Johannesburg, the course pairs mature parkland with the ever-present stream, so club selection and accuracy count on the short holes as much as the long ones. It is a well-established members' club that also welcomes visitors, with cart and caddie hire available and a calendar of corporate golf days.
