About Parkview
One of the city's oldest clubs, Parkview was laid out in 1916 by Laurie Waters, a Scottish-born professional and four-time South African Open champion. More than a century on, it remains an 18-hole, par-72 parkland course that has stayed close to its traditional character.
The routing is unusual. The course stretches roughly three kilometres from north to south but is never more than about 200 metres wide, forming a slim green belt on either side of the Braamfontein Spruit. The walled creek runs between the outward and homeward holes for almost the full length of the layout, so water is rarely far from a pulled or pushed shot, and play falls into two loops from the clubhouse.
Parkview is very much a walking course rather than a cart-first layout. It is closely tied to Bobby Locke, who as a 17-year-old won both the South African Open and the South African Amateur here in the same week in 1935; Gary Player is also associated with the club. Guest and visitor bookings are available, and the clubhouse terrace overlooks the closing hole.
