About Ebotse
Designed by Peter Matkovich and Mark Hayes and opened in 2008, Ebotse adopts a links character rarely seen on the inland Highveld. Firm, contoured playing surfaces were built to US PGA specifications, and water is the defining hazard: around seven holes play alongside or across the estate's dams and wetlands. The emphasis falls on accurate placement and course management rather than raw power.
The course forms the centrepiece of the Ebotse Golf & Country Estate in Rynfield, Benoni, a residential development on the East Rand that also offers tennis and squash. Abundant birdlife and preserved wetland habitat frame many of the holes, lending rounds a quieter, semi-rural atmosphere despite the surrounding suburbs. It has featured in Golf Digest South Africa's national course rankings.
Practice provision is a highlight, headlined by a floating driving range set over water and a fitting studio equipped with launch-monitor technology, plus chipping and bunker areas. As a semi-private facility, Ebotse welcomes visiting golfers alongside members, with green fees and cart hire available and walking permitted. Newcomers should expect exposed, water-lined holes where wind and errant tee shots are quickly punished.
