About Houghton
Built by the Jack Nicklaus design team, the layout replaced the club's original parkland course on the same Lower Houghton property when it opened in 2010. It plays as a par 72 across rolling, tree-lined terrain, defended by extensive strategic bunkering and modern greens whose subtle contours are intended to test the longer hitter. The property's natural undulation gives the course movement uncommon among Johannesburg's flatter parkland tracks.
Golf at Houghton dates back to the 1920s, and the club carries deep tournament heritage, having staged multiple South African Opens and European Tour events on its earlier layout. Since the Nicklaus course opened it has hosted the Joburg Open, a DP World Tour event, marking its return to elite competition.
Houghton is an exclusive, members-focused club that pairs championship golf with extensive lifestyle amenities, including dining, conferencing, a golf academy and padel courts.
