The course was laid out by architect Douw van der Merwe's DDV Design Group and opened in March 2010 as a medium-length parkland layout. Curving dogleg fairways, noticeable elevation changes and greens of varying size shape the round, while deep, strategically placed bunkers and water hazards frame the approaches. On clearer days the higher points of the course open up views toward the Magaliesberg range to the north-west.

Jackal Creek is the golf course at the centre of a residential estate rather than a private members' club, and its tee sheet is open to public bookings. The wider development wraps homes around the fairways and adds lifestyle amenities, including a gym, squash and tennis courts, and running and cycling paths, which gives it a broad, everyday appeal beyond golf alone.

On the practice side there is a putting green with a short-game area and hitting nets, while the on-course clubhouse restaurant, The Den, handles food and drink. Visitors can expect an accessible parkland round that rewards accurate positioning off the elevated tees more than raw length, drawing a mix of club golfers and casual players.
